‘Do unto others what you would have done unto you’

As written by a friend.

It is inconceivable that the maxim ‘do unto others what you would have done unto you’ could be erroneous. It is a fundamental belief that has been instilled in our lives from the time we could understand the spoken language. But time and time again in life we find this to be untrue.

Let me clarify, is doing the right thing at any cost the prudent thing to do? Is putting someone else’s happiness above your needs the smart thing to do? As a person who has been converted to cynicism through life’s events, I would probably say that this is not the smart thing to do.

“The Land is Sacred To Us”

Chief Sealth of the Duwamish League, known to us as Chief Seattle, delivered this speech in 1854—One year before a great treaty-making council between Indian tribes and the U.S. Government. The Government proposed that reservations be established, and although several tribes opposed this, treaties were signed: each of the tribes was to select its favorite home valley as its reservation. It came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity.

In the name of a ‘Secure Existence’…

Bus loads of “Tamil lodgers” were packed off on buses bound to Vavuniya, (all bullshit aside) to “provide the rest of society a comfortable and secure existence…”

I see only grey…

My life as it stands now can only be deemed as one big mess! Looking at my life from one particular angle (with your neck strained to the far right I think), it’s quite simple. I’ve completed my degree, I want to get my life on track and in order to do that I need to become independent (which sadly I’m far from, at least financially) and I’ve somewhat figured out how I’m going to get about it. That doesn’t seem too complicated now does it? Unfortunately though, it is.
